DAY 1: got a late start, felt like my back was breaking, made some okay ground, stayed the night with some friends of friends.
DAY 2: got a slightly less late start, started getting my first blisters, felt like my feet were going to fall off, made some more good ground, stayed the night at my grandmas.
DAY 3: got a better start, started feeling an overall ache, realized how much i hate semi-trucks (on account of the water they spray up when its already raining), made it a pretty good distance, pitched my tent behind some bushes off the road.
DAY 4: woke up cold, not sure how early a start i got (no clocks here, obviously), walked probably a few miles, then fractured my leg.
yep. a car pulled into the shoulder where i was walking, &it didnt look like they were going to stop, so i jumped out of the way, &felt an excruciating pain after taking a bit of a tumble. when i couldnt get back up on my own, i wiggled out of my pack &called a cab to take me to the nearest hospital (i just lost my insurance when i quit my job — no way i was calling an ambulance!). i was a little in &out of it (still am), but i guess ive got a fractured fibula.
a fractured fibula i have to keep weight off for 5-6 weeks, &that ill have to keep braced for another 2-3 weeks beyond that…awesome.
so nevermind walking across the country. for now, anyways. &now im stuck with about five grand in medical bills…so there goes my savings. LAME.
